Warmland Arts Academy

Located on Kenneth Street in the heart of downtown Duncan, neighbouring the iconic city hall clocktower, and next to the Duncan Farmers Market Square, Warmland Arts Academy offers a unique in-person educational experience for Grades 4–12. Combining strong, teacher-led classroom academics with exceptional dance and performing arts training, our interdisciplinary, passion-driven approach supports diverse learners in a nurturing, community-based environment. WAA students will learn in our beautiful new, sunlit classroom and large, modern, sprung-floor studios.

WAA is not an online, standardized, or worksheet-based distributed learning model, as offered by other programs. Students engage in lessons designed specifically for them, led by highly qualified educator and Waldorf-trained teacher Leah Burley (M.Ed.). Our program prioritizes academic excellence through authentic arts integration and student-centered, interdisciplinary learning. Students have the option to take creative courses such as “Anatomy of Dance” (science), “Dance History” (social studies), and “Lyrical Dance Studies” (language arts). As an official service provider for a BC-certified Independent School, Warmland Arts Academy ensures all students meet BC Ministry of Education standards while allowing flexibility to offer passion-driven studies that align with curricular competencies in meaningful, engaging ways.

Parents stay actively involved through weekly check-ins and regular updates with a BC Ministry-assigned Learning Consultant. Warmland ensures each student's personalized learning plan is fully supported, with all necessary reports done for you—making the process smooth and collaborative.

Quality Performing Arts Training meets Academic Excellence - now you can have both.

Grad Program (Grades 10–12)

Our Grad Program (Grades 10–12) follows a blended learning model, allowing students to immerse themselves in dance and performing arts while completing their academic studies through their school or learning provider of choice.

How It Works:

  • Students attend Warmland two full days per week, focusing on dance, performing arts, movement studies, and additional selected courses that support curricular learning.

  • These days cover a range of subjects through an arts-integrated approach, incorporating elements of social studies, science, English, and physical education into their training.

  • The remaining three days per week, students complete their academic coursework through their registered school or learning provider, earning credits toward graduation.

  • The Warmland studio and learning centre remain open five days per week, providing a welcoming space for independent studies, rehearsals, and creative exploration.

This model allows students to maintain academic progress while training at a high level, offering flexibility and support to balance both academic and artistic goals.

At Warmland, we emphasize community and collaboration, fostering an environment where students support one another, build confidence, and develop creativity. Our approach nurtures both artistic excellence and strong academic skills while fostering a deep sense of belonging.
